About Us

Timber Ridge is a member church of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)  We are a small, traditional church, dedicated to fulfilling our mission to be disciples for Christ.  We offer an intimate environment for worship, spiritual growth, and ministry.  (For a statistical snapshot of Timber Ridge, please click here.)

Because we are small, our congregation members know each other by name.  Fellowship activities include sharing our joys, sorrows, time, and talents in faithful service.

We believe strongly in stewardship.  We work vigorously to promote justice and compassion in our world.

We see our children as one of God's greatest blessings.  We offer many opportunities for our young people to experience spiritual growth, flourishing friendships, and Christian values.

Our focus on understanding God's Will and Purpose in our lives brings us together for worship and Bible study.  We celebrate the Sacrament of Communion the first Sunday of each month.  We also offer a wide variety of special services designed to celebrate the Holy Seasons and to bring us closer to God's Word and Work in our lives.

We welcome you to our church as we go forth in mission for God's Glory and in Christ's name.

Now, for a bit of our history.  In 1966 a small group of Presbyterians in South Montgomery County and North Harris County agreed that there was a need for a new church in what was then a rural area.  The group began to meet in homes until the number of worshipers grew too large.  At this time the early membership began to meet in the Tamina Community Center at IH-45 and Tamina Rd.

In the summer of 1966, a call was issued by the Presbytery to Rev. Douglas B. Finch as organizing pastor for our new congregation.  Worship was held in the lobby of a local bank.  The Greater Houston Church Development Committee of what was then Brazos Presbytery purchased a 4.6 acre site in Oak Ridge North as a future building site.  By December, 101 persons had signed a petition requesting that the Presbytery constitute the congregation as a duly organized Presbyterian church.  On January 1, 1967, the commissioning service was held and the name Timber Ridge Presbyterian church was officially chosen.

One year after our church received her charter, several surplus buildings including a chapel were offered for sale at Ellington Air Force Base.  The chapel was purchased for $125.  Under the leadership of Verner Nystrom, members of the congregation dismantled the building and hauled the fifty-two loads of materials to storage on Verner's property.  The members worked tirelessly and faithfully, using their skills in carpentry, plumbing, wiring, painting and the like, to reconstruct the original 7,200 square foot structure.  The physical plant contained the sanctuary/fellowship hall, kitchen, study, eight classrooms, and two restrooms.  It was dedicated on February 11, 1968.  The second wing was completed in March of 1970 and dedicated on March 31, 1971.

With a growing need for a Presbyterian Church in the FM 1960 area, several of our member families began the process of organizing a church there.  In July of 1971, Northwoods Presbyterian Church was established.  As development in The Woodlands grew,  families of Timber Ridge formed the nucleus of The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church.

In 1994, Timber Ridge's congregation voted to move into The Woodlands community and purchased five acres of land on East Alden Bridge Drive.  To the glory of God and in His service, we celebrated the dedication of our present facilities on November 15, 1998.   Since these formative beginnings, the congregation of Timber Ridge has seen the boom and the bust of the 1980's, shared joy and celebrated God's grace in our lives.  There have been times of struggle and times of plenty, but in all there has always been Christ at our center.

We welcome you into our church family as we go forth with the continuing history of Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church.
